Three women: Jean, feeling increasingly claustrophobic in caring for her demanding mother Elsie, still trying, after so many years, to try and get to know the soldier husband who returned from the war a very different man Arabella, a widow haunted by dashed expectations and ghosts from the past.
Three tales of love, regret and loss are subtly brought together via a random act of kindness which in turn triggers an encounter on a beach which results in a life-long obsession.
