The Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin first opened its doors in 2011 as a result of a genuine need within the Irish and Northern Irish theatre, TV and film industries for actors, stage managers, theatre technicians, directors, playwrights and designers to be trained to international standards.
The Lir has delivered admirably on that original vision with a custom designed building, enlightened direction from Loughlin Deegan and highly acclaimed Irish and International professionals to work with the students throughout their training. Now for the first time and due to increasing demand, The Lir Academy is holding auditions for the Bachelor in Acting degree and the Foundation Diploma in Acting and Theatre in Belfast.
Loughlin Deegan, Director of The Lir Academy said
“We’re delighted that the number of applications from Northern Ireland is increasing year on year and to make it easier for the auditionees there, we thought we’d make the journey this time around”
The Lir opened the application process for all undergraduate courses on 1st
October and will be accepting applications until Monday 1st
February which is also the date that auditions at The Lyric Theatre Belfast will take place. Anyone who applies to the Bachelor in Acting degree will automatically get an audition and anyone who applies to the Professional Diploma in Stage Management and Technical Theatre will get an interview. Of course if any applicant from Northern Ireland wishes to attend an audition at The Lir in Dublin, that is still an option but for anyone who would prefer to audition in The Lyric, the applicant is asked to include this in their application.
Jimmy Fay, executive producer at The Lyric is delighted that the association between the two venues is growing from strength to strength. He said
“The Lyric’s three-week residency at the Gaiety this autumn is further proof that the road between Belfast and Dublin is getting progressively shorter. We’re delighted to host the Lir as they audition for the first time in Northern Ireland, and look forward to building ever-stronger collaborations with this, one of the most prestigious and respected drama school in Ireland.”FIND OUT MORE
