Curious Doings, Northern Ireland's new exciting theatre company, comes to the Lyric this September with 'The Things People Say' - a devised improvisation performance exploring the idea of what people say and the impact that can have on themselves, those around them, and the wider society. While all eyes will be fixed firmly on the bold and experimental 'The Things People Say' in the coming weeks, there's more excitement up ahead for Curious Doings' Creative Director, Mary-Frances Doherty.
The local actress, and internationally acclaimed performer and theatre maker will be performing her one woman show ‘Home Sweet Home’ as part of the New York New Works Theatre Festival, this September!
‘Home Sweet Home’ tells the story of Mary-Frances' childhood, growing up in a traditional country Irish home as the youngest of 12, and what her and her 8 sisters and 3 brothers used to do to entertain their guests. It then looks to her Dad, the memories she has of him, and her struggle with his illness and eventual death, before switching its focus to the future and talking about Mary-Frances as a young woman wanting to have a Home Sweet Home of her own.
Selected from hundreds of applications, the show will be performed in the Elektra Theatre in the Times Square Arts Centre. The New York New Works Theatre Festival is the only one of its kind and connects emerging playwrights and artists to elite Broadway professionals, including Broadway Producers and Emmy & Tony Award Winners, in a supportive environment in the heart of Times Square!
Mary-Frances will be flying to New York straight after 'The Things People Say' by Curious Doings finishes its run here at the Lyric from 8th - 10th September. Book your tickets now: www.lyrictheatre.co.uk/event/the-things-people-say
