She was going to tell the truth… eventually, but when the lie fuelled the village gossip and morphed into an alternative fact, a catastrophic sequence of events was set in motion.
Following on from last year’s hugely successful ‘As the Tide Ebbs’, Rawlife Theatre Company, in association with the Lyric Theatre, has once again teamed up with writer Patrick J. O’ Reilly to present the world premiere of ‘Here We Lie,’ a dark and physical comedy that takes an unconventional look into our post- truth world of fake news and alternative facts with hilarious and terrifying results.
Written and directed by Patrick J. O’Reilly ‘Here We Lie’ features a stellar all female cast staring; Rosie McClelland, Louise Mathews, Claire Connor, Bernadette Brown and Antoinette Morelli.
The play evolves around Sharon (Rosie McClelland) whose world is turned upside down when her unfaithful husband Brian (Antoinette Morelli) turns her words into a living nightmare revealing to their hometown of Loughsea, that she is dying. Rallying together the townspeople create a charity foundation in her name and Loughsea becomes a beacon of hope and compassion for the rest of Northern Ireland. As Sharon’s lie breeds into the community; suspicion, hate, fear and more lies make for explosive consequences.
Looking forward to the production Here We Lie writer and director Patrick J. O’Reilly said;
“Here We Lie is a dark and ambitious exploration of fake news and post-truth. It explores our moral compass and asks do we continue to go around in circles or do we finally draw the line? It is darkly comic, subversive and very real – the stuff of nightmares. Here We Lie is also an exploration of Brexit and political elections such as Trump and Stormont; even when we know the truth we are forced to continue listening, believing and refuting the lies.Here we Lie is a challenging production as it asks real and topical questions; all of which is skilfully presented by a fantastic cast, production and design team.”
Gilly Campbell, Arts Development Officer for Drama and Dance, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, commented,
“Writer Patrick J O’Reilly has extensive writing experience with an innovative and fresh style of writing, add to this the talented cast and Here We Lie promises to be a terrific theatre production.
