Chief Executive Ciaran McAuley looks back at activities from the first two years of operation in the new building following the publication of the Lyric Theatre review.
"It has been over two years since we opened the doors of the new £18.1m Lyric Theatre and in that time it has impressed local and international visitors alike by both the building and quality of the drama performed on its two stages.
World-renowned actor Simon Callow described the Lyric as “the most beautiful new theatre in Europe” – just one many accolades the theatre has received.
We decided to capture the highlights of these two dramatic years in a new report which shows the breadth of the work that goes on in Northern Ireland’s only full-time producing theatre.
We have engaged with more than 250,000 people since we reopened including audiences, actors, directors, designers, children and young people.
During our fundraising campaign we articulated the benefits to Northern Ireland of rebuilding this theatre. The review demonstrates how we have made good on those promises – creating employment, contributing to the local economy, nurturing the talents of young people, attracting new audiences and delivering an outstanding cultural experience that reflects positively on Northern Ireland to people beyond these shores.
We’d also like to thank you our customers and trustees for their support and hope they will continue to help us build on our success in the years ahead."
