All eyes will be off-stage next week at the Lyric when the cycling spectacular of the Giro d'Italia takes place outside the theatre and to celebrate we're throwing a party.
You won’t need a ticket for this event as all are welcome to watch one of the world’s greatest cycling competitions as it passes the Lyric Theatre along the embankment at the River Lagan on Friday 9 May.
To celebrate the Big Start, the Lyric is hosting a Family Fun Day both indoors and in the natural amphitheatre within the grounds at the bottom of Ridgeway Street.
Get yourself a prime race-side seat at the theatre where you can watch the Time Trials of some of the world’s top cyclists as they pass along the most scenic part of the route through Belfast.
The theatre and grounds will be open all day and evening to watch the practice session in the morning, which is from 9.30 to 12.30pm. The team time trials will then take place from 4pm to 8.30pm.
Enjoy lots of FREE activities at the Lyric from 2pm to 6pm, including a bouncy castle for the kids, face-painters, craft workshops, story-telling and music.
From 6pm to closing time there will be live music in the Lyric’s Café Bar where you can enjoy its spectacular views over the race-track. Food will be served all day with delicious breakfast baps from 9am – 12pm; soups, stew, pasta and pizza will be served from 12 to 6pm. All that you need to fuel hungry spectators’ appetites!
Please note due to the timing of the Giro d’Italia, there will be no evening performances on Friday 9 May.
Both Lyric plays, the World War I drama How Many Miles to Babylon? and the comedy thriller, Demented, will resume as normal on Saturday 10 May. Matinees are at 2.30pm and 3pm respectively; and evening performances are at 7.45pm and 8pm.
