This Christmas we had to do things a little differently. Instead of welcoming audiences to the theatre we came to your living room via our online Christmas shows and we also helped audiences count down to Christmas with well-known Lyric artists treating us to 10 days of festive favourites.
Not only were listeners encouraged to tune in online - but they were also asked to make a small donation which would help the Goliath Trust. The Goliath Trust is a local charity which aims to address the persistent problem of educational underachievement in some Belfast primary schools badly affected by paramilitarism.
Dr Alasdair McDonnell, Chair of Goliath Trust, said:
“We are delighted that The Lyric Theatre used this opportunity to support the Trust. Following a pilot programme last year, we are rolling out a Summer Reading Recovery Scheme, so the £400 raised will enable us to reach even more pupils.”
Jimmy Fay, Executive Producer at the Lyric Theatre commented:
“We were delighted to once again support the brilliant Goliath Trust this past Christmas. We would usually be able to welcome groups of children to the Lyric as part of Goliath’s scheme with primary schools so although our doors were closed it was great to be able to continue this support."
