My name is Conor Pelan. I am a 21-year-old trainee actor and currently studying a Level 5 HND in Performing Arts. From joining the Lyric Drama Studio last year I feel much more confident as an actor.
I’ve been in acting training courses before which were great, but I definitely feel that the Drama Studio has been the best in the way it specifically improves on different parts of your acting ability. For instance when I first started I knew that I was straining my voice when I acted but I wasn’t sure how to tackle this. Since I began classes at the Lyric, I have been taught to use my diaphragm properly, the importance of breath work and acting with ease.
Something that I really love about the Drama Studio is its level of intensity and that you’re working with people who take the profession just as seriously, if not more seriously, than you do. Being with people who have so much passion for it is really inspiring and makes you realise the level you have to be at yourself if you want to succeed in the industry.
Recently I was offered an unconditional offer for the Bachelor of Arts at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I know that I owe much of this achievement to my teachers at the Lyric and their genuine passion for wanting their students to succeed. RWCMD will bring me into a very disciplined and intense world of acting training and I would like to thank the Drama Studio for preparing me and giving me the essential skills to get me this far.
The course is a phenomenal opportunity for young actors here and the fact that it is free makes it a really unique place.
