The award-winning writer of The Weir & The Night Alive, Conor McPherson makes a welcome return to the Lyric in October with a new translation of The Nest by Franz Xaver Kroetz. This new production is co-produced by the Lyric Theatre Belfast & the Young Vic London and stars Love Hate actors Caoilfhionn Dunne as Martha, and Laurence Kinlan as Kurt.
The play centres around Martha and Kurt, two soon-to-be new parents who work hard to provide for their new family and give their child the best and most comfortable start in life. But when Kurt’s boss offers him a chance to make some easy money, his decision threatens the health of his family and the entire community. Conor McPherson’s new translation questions the the moral cost of an increasingly materialistic society.
With an original score composed by multi award-winning artist PJ Harvey, recorded by Harvey and her regular collaborator James Johnston, this fable of individualism will premiere at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast from 1 to 22 October before a London debut in the Young Vic’s Maria.
The Lyric Theatre’s Executive Producer Jimmy Fay said, “Conor McPherson is one of our best writers and I am thrilled to be co-producing his new play with the Young Vic. As with all of Conor’s plays, The Nest manages to be funny, shocking, contemporary and moving. I’m really excited to bring it to Belfast and I have no doubt that our Lyric audiences are going to be blown away by the play”.
The Nest runs in the Naughton Studio from 1 to 22 October (previews 1, 3, 4, 5 October for £13). Tickets from £15 - 24.50.
