Íde Simpson
Íde Simpson is an actor, writer, and producer. She is a graduate of Drama and English Literature at Trinity College Dublin. Íde recently acted in, and produced David Ireland’s Ulster American (Samuel Beckett Theatre) Spectare (Samuel Beckett Theatre), and Cailíní (Samuel Beckett Theatre, and Lyric Theatre Belfast). She has just developed a play on commission with the British Council, and the Lyric Theatre in Belfast, as part of the ‘Words Without Borders’ scheme. She was one of the '21 artists for the 21st century' in 2021, with her play 'The Lands' developed and performed in the Brian Friel Theatre with mentorship from Owen Mccafferty, Michael Patrick, and Rosemary Jenkinson, and support from the Northern Ireland Office. Her play The Lands was also performed as one of the 21 plays in the 'No Touching Theatre Festival' (2020) in the Accidental Theatre, she was the youngest writer on commission in this festival at age 17. Her play 'Listen! The Adults are Talking' was performed in Mumbai earlier this year, with another play of hers, Childsplay, running in the Etcetera Theatre in Camden in June 2023. She has just completed a six-week bursary with the Irish Writer’s Centre, with her poem ‘You and I: Dancing’ recently published in Fortnight Magazine, and her poem ‘Night Walk Alone’ published in Icarus magazine alongside Simon Armitage. Her theatre company ABLAZE productions has produced Cailíní, with Íde co-writing and playing the role of Úna in Cailíní.
