Elly Makem
Elly Makem - “EllyMakes” is an Illustrator from Belfast, who specialises in wacky colourful illustrations and comics. Her client list has included National Museums NI, Cineworld Belfast and Reimagine Remake Replay. She operates freelance from her studio in The 343 - a Queer and Feminist Led Art Space - in Cathedral Quarter in the city. She works with other queer organisations as a designer, as well as independently creating free online comics discussing neurodivergence and LGBT+ issues.
Elly came out as a Lesbian in 2013 at the age of 19 after leaving school, through the assistance of a local Roller Derby League and the microblogging platform - Tumblr. Since then she has lived in various cities across the UK, before returning to Belfast in 2020. Elly often uses her platform to speak out about issues specific to Lesbianism, while also using illustration as a tool of self-expression through the ever-unfolding journey of queerness.
