Emily DeDakis

Dramaturg
Dr Emily DeDakis is a writer and dramaturg from the southeast U.S., now based in north Belfast. She is an associate artist with Fighting Words NI, mentoring their Young Playwrights programme. As a dramaturg, Emily has developed dozens of scripts and performances including immersive, 24-hour, multimedia, verbatim and dance theatre. Emily, a member of Literary Managers & Dramaturgs of the Americas and the Dramaturgs’ Network (UK/Ireland), has worked with Accidental Theatre and Terra Nova (Belfast), foolsFURY and Golden Thread (San Francisco), Scene + Heard (Dublin) and Droichead Arts Centre (Drogheda), among others. She received a BBC Performing Arts Fund dramaturgy fellowship, and has taught playwriting at Queen’s University Belfast and Ulster University. Emily’s writing has appeared in numerous publications and on BBC radio and television. She is a member of the experimental choir HIVE and often collaborates with sound artists.
