Theatre School
The Lyric’s range of weekly drama workshops use the stimulating power of the theatre arts to inspire and engage.
Designed for young people aged 6 - 18+, they represent a wonderful opportunity to learn with a team of professional facilitators and explore many different skills. No audition or previous experience is necessary. With workshops and mentorship, Theatre School pools the creative energy of experienced theatre practitioners and nurtures not only artistic talent but better collaborators, thinkers, and leaders.
Storytrekkers Primary 2 - 3
Storytrekkers is an interactive story based session which ignites imaginations as participants travel to different corners of the globe each week. We jet off and explore faraway lands as well as meeting lots of exciting characters along the way. Participants take part in a range of drama games & exercises to explore characterisation and create their own alternative endings to each story.
Participants learn about the myths and legends associated with a wide range of different cultures; whether it’s running wild with the Kitsune of Japan or slaying the Wawel dragon in Poland, they always manage to make it back to the cafe bar before lunch time.
Primary 3 - 4
This class will involve a range of drama games and activities designed to introduce acting and performance techniques to our budding young actors. The class will explore characterisation, improvisation, physical theatre and storytelling; encouraging participants to work together, think creatively and engage their boundless imaginations.
Classes are led by our team of professional facilitators and will encourage young people to grow in confidence, develop new skills and make new friends through drama exercises, games and play.
Primary 5, 6 & 7
This class will encourage our young actors to explore a wide range of acting techniques from improvisation, storytelling, characterisation and physical theatre. With a strong emphasis on teamwork, participants will work together to create their own stories and characters and learn to bring them to life through a variety of drama exercises, games and play.
These fun and energetic classes are led by our team of professional facilitators and will encourage young people to grow in confidence, make new friends and develop new skills.
Year 8 – 10
This class will explore a wide range of performance and acting techniques from improvisation and characterisation to script work and physical theatre. The group will start to develop their own ‘actor’s toolkit’ learning key skills essential to any actor.
With a strong emphasis on teamwork, participants will work on extracts from scripts as well as devising their own characters and stories. The devising process will help young people to develop essential skills such as confidence and communication, creative thinking and decision making.
Classes are led by our team of professional facilitators and will encourage young people to grow in confidence and develop new skills.
Year 11 - 12
The perfect class for those studying GCSE Drama or those thinking of pursuing acting as a career.
Participants will focus in detail on a range of performance skills and acting techniques from improvisation and script work to physical theatre and devising. They will also learn about different theatre practitioners and their subsequent styles. Each week the class will begin with a physical and vocal warm up to sharpen focus and develop skills in vocal projection and articulation.
Classes are led by our team of professional facilitators and will encourage young people to grow in confidence, develop new skills and expand their knowledge of theatre.
Year 13 - 14 (Senior Theatre School)
The perfect class for those studying AS /A Level drama or those interested in pursuing a career in theatre. Senior Theatre School is a training programme for aspiring young actors.
This course will be taught over 12 weeks by a core tutor of The Lyric. It will cover key elements of actor training including Voice, Movement and Improvisation. We aim to introduce young actors to various theatre techniques, preparing them for further study of acting either through the Lyric Drama Studio or a recognised drama school. This weekly course demands a high level of commitment; participants must be on time for each session and come ready to work & learn. Participants will also have unique access to the expertise and advice of the Creative Learning Dept when thinking about post school options + drama school auditions.
