The Belfast Ensemble and Outburst Queer Arts Festival present:
ABOMINATION - a DUP Opera
After sold out taster performances of Abomination
in 2018, The Belfast Ensemble and Outburst Arts present the major new co-production of the full finished opera to open this year's Outburst Queer Arts Festival.
Fusing opera with drag, cabaret and political satire, acclaimed composer Conor Mitchell and the Belfast Ensemble are back with their most exciting work to date!
Featuring historical and recent comments by DUP members on gay rights, trans lives, marriage equality, 'poofs' and 'perverts', Abomination, A DUP Opera
sets the infamous Iris Robinson radio broadcast to live orchestral music, saving Ulster from Sodomy one song at a time!
At a time when freedom of speech is under threat globally yet frequently invoked to legitimise hate speech, Abomination: A DUP Opera
explores the power of words and challenges us to create a new narrative beyond the bluster and bruising of politicians and media.
Running time: 1 hour
Produced by The Belfast Ensemble and Outburst Arts with the support of Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, British Council and PRS Foundation.
Please note this performance contains strobe lighting, scenes of a sexual nature and scenes of violence.
