Today is Beaujolais Nouveau Day 2015. To mark the day, along with the promotion of
Edith Piaf tonight and tomorrow night, we're doing a special offer across the two nights as follows:
- Plate of hors d'oeuvres and a glass of 2015 Beaujolais for just £10 or a plate for two to share and a bottle of Beaujolais for just £20.
What is Beaujolais Day?Beaujolais Nouveaux is the first press of wine from the Beaujolais Appellation in France and is released on the third Thursday in November each year. It used to be a huge event in the 1980’s with many staging a Beaujolais Run, trying to be the first to get the new wine from Paris to London. The wine cannot be tasted until 12.01 on the third Thursday each year. It has started to make a comeback in recent years.
Beaujolais is the only region of France to be allowed to make their wine available for consumption so soon after the harvest and it is often seen as an indicator of the quality of the year’s harvest.
Our wine is :
Beaujolais Clos des Vieux Marronnier Nouveau Terra Vitis 2015.Isabelle from Loron says “This is an excellent choice, our "golden nugget" , from an old vineyard located in the golden stones country. The winegrower is a perfectionist young lady, with a lot of energy.”
It won a
GOLD MEDAL in Lyon last year and this vintage is one of the best in a decade or so.
Expect a juicy compote of strawberry, raspberry and cherry fruit flavours. Great with salads, white meat, fish and on its own!
