Introducing Tara McLean, participant from the Lyric Theatre and Fighting Words NI project, The Right Twig. This National Encourage a Young Writer Day we are finding out more about Tara, and other young writers to learn more about their inspirations, experiences and work:
Who are you?
I’m Tara! I’m 14 years old and I’ve loved writing and theatre ever since I was little.
What does writing mean to you?
Writing is important to me in so many ways. It helps me to express myself and explore different themes and concepts that people my age never usually get the chance to. It’s an amazing outlet for emotions and feelings.
What would you say to someone thinking about giving writing a go?
Honestly, just go for it! Your first draft is always going to be rough and uncertain, but everyone needs a good starting point, and you won’t get that unless you put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard!) and just give it a go,
What is your best memory of the Right Twig experience?
I took part in the writing for radio course, and my best memory of it was hearing my script being read out by the actors for the first time. It was when my writing really began to feel like something real and impactful.
