Over the past few weeks the Creative Learning Department launched a series of Online Drama Workshops for young people aged 6 – 18 years old. In place of our usual Theatre School classes, these online workshops provided a safe, fun environment for young people to think creatively and get involved in a range of drama activities. We did a Q&A with one of our regular attendees who was able to attend online from Hungary!
Tell us about yourself and how you first heard about the Lyric Theatre?My name is Bodo Gretsy-Kovats, I’m 16 years old, and I live in Hungary, in Budapest. It seems as if it was just yesterday when I first took part in the Lyric Theatre Summer School back in 2016. I was planning to visit my cousin in Belfast, and we were searching for a summer scheme with my family. And then, finally we found this programme on the website of the Lyric. When I was here the first time, I enjoyed the activities so much, that I came here every following year (except for this summer because of Covid). Can’t wait to see you all again soon!What do you enjoy most about visiting the Lyric and taking part in the workshops?I love all the activities, games, programmes the Lyric provides us with. I also enjoy making friends during the workshops, or meeting people again from previous years.Are you involved with any theatre/drama at home in Hungary?I’m studying at a high school for the Croatian minority in Hungary, here I’m a member of the Croatian language drama group. I also used to visit a theatre school in Budapest as a little child.What have you learnt from taking part in all the workshops over the yearsI’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to discover many aspects of theatre and drama including scene-games, physical theatre and text work. I would like to say a big thank you to the Lyric for all the help, support and experience I’ve received from it.
