Summer School at the Lyric
Our Summer School Programmes are in full swing and this year we are excited to have been able to offer full bursaries to young people who would typically face barriers to participating in the arts.
With Lyric Summer School running from 24th July through to 18th August, young people ages 6 to 18 have the opportunity to spend a week with our Creative Learning facilitators learning and developing skills in acting, physical theatre, voice all whilst building confidence and making new friends!
The overall theme of our Summer Programme is Ulster Innovators. Energetic sessions have our young participants exploring the stories of local legends in the fields of science, art, medicine, education and more. Taking inspiration from these fascinating individuals, they have been creating unique and interesting theatre pieces that are presented at an end-of-week showcase to family and friends.
We were delighted to welcome young people to the building, with two students attending this years summer school through a fully funded bursary. These young people were identified during our 'Theatre School on the Road' project which offered free workshops to primary schools working in areas with high levels of deprivation across Northern Ireland. Children who showed an interest in theatre and performance were offered a bursary to cover tuition of the Summer School, and where required, support to cover transport costs.
The Lyric prides itself on being a 'Playhouse for All'. Our award winning Creative Learning department continues to provide opportunities for young people to actively engage in theatre through workshops, theatre school and additional outreach programmes. Additionally they provide pathways into theatre for young people ages 6 through to 25. This work is supported primarily through patron donations and partnerships with commercial organisations.
