We have some exciting news to share — The Lyric is proud to be an Associate Partner on the Climate Playwriting Prize, a bold new initiative launched by Shakespeare's Globe, Climate Spring and Fern Culture.
This vital prize has been created to discover, promote and champion the most inspiring new plays responding to the climate and nature crisis. At a time when the world feels increasingly fragile, theatre has a unique and powerful role to play and this prize is a celebration of that. Artists have always helped us imagine what comes next, and this initiative puts that belief front and centre.
What's on offer for the winning playwright?
The winning playwright will receive:
- £15,000 in prize money
- Dedicated dramaturgical support to develop their work
- Guidance on the next steps towards production and beyond
It's a genuinely transformative opportunity for a playwright with something urgent and important to say.
Our role as Associate Partner
As an Associate Partner, we're committed to making sure that bold, urgent climate storytelling is heard, from playwrights across our community and beyond. That means actively encouraging submissions, championing climate theatre on our stages, and supporting writers who are ready to engage with one of the defining challenges of our time.
We believe the stories we tell matter. And we can't wait to see what playwrights bring to this prize.
