To give you a taste of what's to come in our online New Speak Re-Imagined programme, our commissioned artists are here to tell you more about themselves and the piece they are creating. Jude and Gemma Mae of Amadan Ensemble tell us about their piece The Great British Lockdown.
The Great British Lockdown
During the Covid-19 Lockdown of 2020 a typical Northern Irish family agreed to document their lives under quarantine. Over the course of 3 months Graham and Rebecca from Belfast filmed their daily lives to create a personal picture of the state of the nation. Join this family during one of the most difficult times in world history.
Amadan Ensemble takes risks to make the world braver by creating playful, engaging physical theatre using Clown & Bouffon. Husband & wife team, Jude Quinn & Gemma Mae Halligan set up the company in 2014 and to date have created a number of touring productions, including Mr. Mess, The Imp, Thank F#ck It's Christmas and Pink & Blue, travelling as far as Canada with their work. Amadan has a strong commitment to theatre training, bringing world renowned masters such as Philippe Gaulier, Mick Barnfather and Jos Houben to Belfast, as well as running their own workshops. Gemma Mae & Jude draw on their combined experience of working for some of Ireland’s leading theatre companies, including Lyric Theatre Belfast, Rough Magic, and the Abbey Theatre as well as their training with Philippe Gaulier and L’Ecole International de Theatre Jacques Lecoq to provide a high-quality and unique theatrical experience.
New Speak Re-Imagined will feature over four episodes here and on our YouTube channel each Friday from 24th April. Click here to find out more and watch the latest episode.
